Blauing was born from the vision of Mastermet, one of the largest distributors of cutting tools in Poland. After years of growth—both in the size of its sales team and in the breadth of its product portfolio—the natural next step was to create a proprietary brand. I had the privilege of being invited into the project team, and the honor of building this new brand from the ground up fell to me.
At the start, nothing existed—no name, no logo, only an initial selection of products that would form the foundation of the brand. From this, Blauing began to take shape. The focus was clear: indexable cutting tools—from turning inserts, holders, and parting tools, through the full spectrum of milling cutters and related equipment, to drilling solutions. Alongside these, the brand also offers solid carbide tools, drills, end mills, and special tools.
The name itself reflects the brand’s identity. “Blau” comes from the German word for blue, symbolizing trust, precision, and engineering tradition. The suffix “ing” connects to engineering, underlining that the brand is designed for engineers and professionals who rely on technical excellence.
The logo draws inspiration from the shapes of cutting tools. Its outline resembles the flutes of a drill or end mill, and some may even see the trace of a thread profile. The background form loosely references the shape of Poland, grounding the brand in its origin.

Building a brand, however, went beyond visuals. Because Blauing started from scratch, there was a need to design a complete nomenclature and system of designations for tools, bodies, inserts, and carbide grades. To keep it simple and universal, we based material group designations on widely recognized industry standards. Tool body codes were structured to embed as many technical parameters as possible directly into the name—so that, once familiar with the logic, an engineer could immediately understand the tool’s application and material compatibility.
Packaging was also reimagined to improve ergonomics and usability. Beyond conventional markings for continuous, interrupted, or roughing operations, Blauing introduced barcodes and QR codes for faster identification and automated warehouse handling. One of the most innovative ideas—my own authorship—was the use of background colors on the front of insert boxes. This allows engineers and machine operators to recognize the tool’s application from a distance—for example, blue for steel and yellow for stainless steel—using intuitive, industry-standard color codes to speed up identification and enhance workflow efficiency.

Finally, the catalogue itself was structured to guide users intuitively. Each product family begins with an overview featuring large visuals, key benefits, and application notes. This is followed by insert references, toolholder designations, spare parts, recommended cutting parameters, and, at the end, precise dimensional tables. This logical, layered approach helps both engineers and sales teams to navigate quickly and make informed decisions.

Blauing, therefore, is more than just a brand—it is a complete system, carefully designed to combine technical clarity, practical usability, and professional engineering identity.
